I was born in Copenhagen in 1975 but grew up in Antwerp, and have lived in 6 countries in total. I studied clinical psychology and systemic psychotherapy in Belgium, and worked alongside some of Belgium's most renown couples therapists. Later I specialised in sex therapy in Berlin.
Workwise I divide my time in three parts. First of all there’s my clinical work with clients, which I have 20 years of experience with. I feel privileged to work as a therapist, because people gather the courage to speak about their most intimate thoughts or worst fears in my presence. The working process involves several experts, one might say, because the client is the expert in their life and experiences, and I’m the expert in using the appropriate therapeutic skills. So it is a collaboration, and not a matter of me telling people what to do. Due to my specialisations, I work a lot with relationships, as well as gender- and sexuality related themes. Working online provides me with the possibility of seeing people all over the globe, and many clients are happy to know that I have an international background myself.
Apart from the therapeutic work I teach a lot, both at universities as well as in private institutions. Which is great - because I love teaching! My enthusiasm seems to be infectious - I often get very positive feedback from students and participants, which I’m very grateful for.
The rest of my working hours are spent on my love of books. I read a lot, I’m one of those people who’s reading several books at a given time. And when I have the time, I write a little bit as well, which has led to three books so far.
